Performs lead semi-skilled laboring tasks related to transportation construction, repair, and maintenance; cut out streets and driveways; excavates, backfills and compacts excavated areas to facilitate manual repair; processes weight/trash tickets; asphalt paving and patching repair; street brick repair; core drilling, mixing concrete and installing manhole riser rings and raised pavement markers.
Layout and pre-mark street markings; performs sheet thermoplastic and textured material application; installs traffic and stop signs per plan; checks elevations for proper grade; excavates areas to proper elevation; restores area to its previous condition including asphalt pavement, and sod installation.
Performs intermediate computer skills; gathers data and information; verify work orders; reviews work assignments; estimate and acquire necessary equipment and material; maintains records and prepares reports as needed; assists in compiling and verifying items for contractor payments. Functions as lead worker; assigns and reviews work of other team members; trains other personnel.
Estimates material, labor, chemical, and equipment requirements for daily tasks; acquires necessary equipment and materials needed daily.
Conducts and documents job safety requirements.
Utilizes varying sizes of small, medium and heavy equipment.
Performs related work as required.
Working knowledge: proper safety practices; proper use of hand signals for traffic and equipment operations; patching and paving tasks; transportation construction practices communications equipment; customer service, geographical information systems (GIS) and computer skills.
