Coordinates and participates in the architectural analysis and coordination of the construction process for capital improvement projects such as transportation and utility infrastructure projects, multi-story parking garages, bridges, parks, and various public use building types; coordinates and participates in the development of shop drawings and supplemental drawings during the construction phase.
Provides project coordination with City departments, user groups, and consultants in matters relating to the architectural aspects of building construction and renovation; collects and analyzes data; inspects or reviews construction work in progress to make sure that new construction and alternation work complies with plans and drawings; reviews and checks for accuracy the progress reports submitted by contractor and city inspectional personnel; consults with project managers in developing scope of work, specifications, and drawings for change orders; reviews field information from projects to ensure that work is consistent with architectural plans.
Handles contractor requests for information; confers with engineers, architects and contractors relative to project dispute resolution for ongoing projects; reviews and approves pay requests of contractors for work completed and for additional work items necessitated by conditions not originally contemplated during the design phases; reviews and advises on all significant changes requested by contractors or client departments; supervises staff in the preparation and approval of change orders.
Coordinates preparation, implementation, filing and retrieval of a variety of architecutural drawings, documents, and records; analyze data and prepares reports and correspondence related to architectural activities.
Performs related work as required.
Considerable knowledge of: architectural methods, practices and procedures as they apply to the design and construction of new facilities and the alteration/renovation of existing facilities; construction and design codes, City ordinances, state and federal regulations governing building construction and the preparation and interpretation of construction plans and specifications; project construction invoicing, materials and labor analysis and delivery and payment procedures.
Knowledge of: interior design and space planning; architectural drafting and design methods, practices, and techniques.
Ability to: read, understand, and interpret construction related documents; prepare a variety of documents in correct technical format, terminology and phraseology; establish and maintain accurate technical operating records and prepare clear and concise oral and written reports; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, contractors, engineers, architects and the public; plan and coordinate projects to determine compliance with plans and specifications; analyze plans, specifications and other technical materials and draw sound conclusions; organize in report form and present sound recommendations effectively, both orally and in writing.
