Performs exam elements for annual physicals to include: review of health history questionnaire and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) mandated forms, pulmonary function testing, audiograms, vision testing, electrocardiograms, respirator fit-testing, assessment of vital signs, phlebotomy, vaccination administration, and tuberculosis (TB) testing; interprets results of TB tests and reviews results of lab work and exam elements, notifying supervisor in the appropriate time frame for unfavorable findings; communicates results effectively to employee and provides information in a professional, courteous manner.
Coordinates on-site vaccination programs and administers vaccines correctly; ensures employees are educated on all aspects of care provided prior to delivery of services.
Provides health and wellness information to employees verbally and via literature; participates in innovative projects to improve and maintain employees’ health and wellness; provides educational sessions to groups of employees on health, wellness and safety topics.
Maintains stock of medical supplies; calibrates medical equipment daily and maintains log; ensures cleanliness of clinic.
Assists with case management for line-of-duty (Workers’ Compensation) injuries and illnesses; accepts on-call status as designated for line-of-duty injuries and illnesses; manages employee infectious disease and blood exposures per protocol.
Demonstrates professional development; strives to continue learning and remain proficient in occupational health nursing skills.
Maintains strict confidentiality of all medically related information.
Performs related work as required.
Considerable knowledge of: standard nursing practice; medication administration; maintenance of confidentiality; general injury and illness pathophysiology and standard treatment; basic first aid; general patient assessment.
Working knowledge of: department rules, regulations and applicable standards; use of computers where required; medical reference resources.
Ability to: solve complex problems; think critically; understand and follow complex oral and written instructions; communicate effectively with members of all health care disciplines, employees, and others; work with individuals of the public; maintain medical records.
