The employee in this class is responsible for performing tasks of more than average difficulty involving planning, organizing, coordinating, and participating in education activities for the Airport Division. Work is performed on assignment from the Fire Chief; therefore, the employee cannot expect to achieve regular status in this position. Considerable initiative and independent judgment are required in exercising control of an effective and informative aviation related education program. Under general supervision, work requires that continuous and effective contacts be established and maintained with the aviation community. Preparation of informative materials for public distribution necessitates the exercise of imagination in carrying out assignments, as well as considerable tact and courtesy in working with the public. Work is reviewed through conferences, reports, written evaluation, and observation of results obtained.
Develops age appropriate materials and information for airport tour programs; delivers fire related information to participants during tours; serves as primary point of contact between Tampa Fire Rescue (TFR) and Hillsborough County Aviation Authority (HCAA) for tour related issues; reviews and updates tour materials on an annual basis. Develops lesson plans for all Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) 139.319j required areas of ARFF training and serves as lead instructor for ARFF courses; delivers basic ARFF training to new hires and prospective airport medics; serves as lead instructor for all FAR 107 required Movement Area Training (MAT) and Security Identification Area (SIDA) training; reviews and updates lesson plans annually; maintains accurate and current records for all personnel on ARFF training. Delivers CPR and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training to HCAA employees and tenants; develops and delivers curriculum for fire related issues for fuel handlers at HCAA owned airports; develops and delivers fire safety and extinguisher training for all HCAA owned airports. Attends conferences and training as required to remain current on aircraft related information; performs administrative functions as required. Performs related work as required.
Considerable knowledge of: aircraft firefighting techniques and equipment; aircraft terminology; search and rescue techniques and equipment for aircraft related incidents.
Working knowledge of: effective communication techniques, including effective public speaking and presentation techniques; training principles, practices, and techniques; methods, materials, and equipment used in making training presentations.
Ability to: design and administer fire service training programs; prepare effective lesson plans for designated training programs; write and speak clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings; set clear objectives and measures and monitor process, progress and results of training programs; present instructional materials and evaluate training participants in an effective manner; work cooperatively and interact effectively with others; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Currently employed with Tampa Fire Rescue as a certified fire employee.
- Eight (8) years of experience in the fire service, including some experience in education or training activities as an instructor and some experience in word processing.
- Successful completion of 30 college credits, (18 of which must be in the areas of fire science/administration, emergency medical services, business or public administration, or education with a major in fire science/administration).
