Patrols utility facilities on foot or in a lightweight motor vehicle to guard against fire, theft, vandalism, sabotage, and other disruptive acts; ensures that buildings, equipment and materials are secured; checks gates and doors to ensure that they are locked; at times might be required to climb up on structures via stairs, ladders etc.; verifies identity of visitors and vendors to the facility; accompanies vendors while making deliveries; keeps unauthorized persons out of area and away from equipment and materials; observes any unusual/suspicious conditions and resolves or reports as circumstances require; requests police, fire or other assistance in resolving problems, as necessary.
Inspects building complex to identify and resolve security/safety issues; makes recommendations for corrective action and improved efficiency.
Completes reports and forms such as accident reports, visitor lists, vehicles lists etc. when required.
Monitors security systems, turns on and off and checks periodically to ensure that they are operable; monitors controls for security and fire detection systems.
Uses vehicle computer, radio or other communications equipment to contact Police Department communications for assistance or information.
Maintains security logs on inspections and personnel IDs; controls access to plant site by employees, vendors and contractors.
Performs first aid as required.
Performs related work as required.
Working knowledge of: security procedures and responsibilities; rules and regulations of assigned department.
Some knowledge of: basic reporting and records keeping procedures.
Ability to: remain alert and observant while working alone; perform work requiring physical strength and endurance including the ability to work above the ground; think and act quickly and calmly in emergencies; establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, other employees, and the public; analyze information or situations, solve problems and recall information and events; prepare routine reports as required.
Skill in: the operation of a lightweight motor vehicle as required.
