Introduction

This is work performing a variety of limited administrative tasks within a patrol district at the Police Department (TPD).  Bargaining unit position.

Nature Of Work

Employees in this class perform work of average difficulty under the general supervision of a division commander. The work performed is administrative and requires that the employee be familiar with law enforcement procedures, possess the ability to coordinate activities, and be cognizant of research and reporting methods. Employees must exercise some initiative and independent judgment in completion of assigned tasks. Work is reviewed through reports submitted, conferences, and observation of results accomplished.

Examples of Duties

Coordinates and monitors the district’s fleet program daily; submits a monthly report to the vehicle coordinator regarding the status of any new or reassigned vehicles; refers vehicles for maintenance or repair; processes and verifies mileage slips and updates the vehicle database.

Controls and accounts for all equipment assigned to the patrol district; monitors and maintains inventory and control of portable radios; maintains a record of equipment due or submitted for repair.

Oversees the maintenance and upkeep of the district facility.

Prepares correspondence and reports at the direction of the division commander; maintains, updates and archives files pertinent to the daily operation of the patrol district; stays abreast of all posted directives and information on the roll call board and purges material on a monthly basis; maintains an adequate supply of forms and materials utilized by district personnel.

Prepares trespass affidavit information and maintains records in appropriate files; coordinates the “did not witness” traffic court subpoena system.

Ensures the transport and delivery of DUI and seized tag packages to Division of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles; picks up criminal histories and subpoenas from TPD headquarters on a daily basis; picks up and delivers daily mail at the main station and outside agencies.

As required, assists staff and officers by transporting or arranging for transport/delivery of: specialty order items from the Property Room; employee jackets for the Personnel Unit; time cards; and, laptops for servicing to Technology and Innovation.

On a weekly basis, reviews and processes money transaction received for services performed on traffic fines and delivers the collected funds to accounting.

Oversees the supervision and scheduling of work assignments performed by citizens authorized to complete community service hours at the patrol districts; fills in as the replacement at the district’s service counter when necessary.

Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Working knowledge of: the departments, functions, and services available within TPD and the city to provide accurate and timely information and referrals to citizens.

Ability to: learn and interpret pertinent laws, statutes, ordinances, and standard operating procedures necessary to perform the job; establish and maintain effective relations with the public, the media, if necessary, and co-workers; speak and communicate effectively; prepare accurate, complete, and grammatically correct correspondence and reports; understand and follow oral and written instructions; learn and satisfactorily perform various administrative; operate office equipment; use a computer of typewriter and software; operate a city vehicle.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited high school with one (1) year of administrative, office or inventory related work experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Licenses or Certifications

Possession of a valid Florida driver’s license.

Comments

Employees may be required to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed. During periods when the Mayor issues an emergency declaration for the City of Tampa, all employees may be required to work in preparation, response or recovery activities related to the stated emergency.
