Participates in information searches and compiles data on assigned projects and issues to provide council chair with background data and to assist in management of details.
Serves as an administrative liaison and meets with representatives of the media, officials of other governmental agencies, and the general public; gives out information pertaining to current issues consistent with policy and direction of the council member served.
Screens callers and visitors; receives and responds to complaints and inquiries; makes appointments as appropriate; routes calls and visitors to city departments or to other organizations as appropriate to respond to their needs.
Maintains schedule of appointments, meetings, and other events and apprises council member of schedule; composes correspondence independently or from general outline; types reports and administrative forms; maintains files; attends meetings and conferences as council member representative.
Prepares reports and correspondence; participates in managing unit budget and work processes.
Performs related work as required.
Considerable knowledge of: modern office practices, procedures and equipment; business English, spelling, grammar, and arithmetic.
Ability to: establish and maintain effective working relationships with city officials, department directors, managers and employees, representatives of other agencies, and the general public; communicate clearly and accurately; deal with public relations needs in an effective and courteous manner; maintain complex and confidential files; perform a variety of routine office support activities.
Skill in: use of a typewriter, computer software and other standard office equipment.
