Performs beginning-level sub-professional work assisting in a limited variety of surveying functions to include setting up, leveling and marking survey rods/poles/tripods.
Levels a rod/tracking pole in a perpendicular position on a designated point in accordance with oral directions or hand signals to determine elevation and/or distance. Identifies measured and sighted points, benchmarks and monuments by painting or placing hubs, stakes and nails.
Clears brush and trees with an axe, bush hook or machete for the purpose of establishing line of sight. Enters manholes, sanitary and storm sewers, and ditches to take accurate measurements and elevations.
Operates total station or digital level for training and/or relief purposes.
Draws simple sketches.
Performs related work as required.
Some knowledge of: mathematics; work hazards and applicable safety precautions.
Ability to: perform basic mathematical calculations; prepare simple sketches and records; understand and follow oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; perform work requiring physical exertion; develop skill in the use and care of engineering tools and equipment related to the task to be performed.
Written Test (Time Limit: 1-1/2 hours).

Evaluation of training and/or experience. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment processing.
The selected candidate must pass a federal background check for Port of Tampa access.
