Nature Of Work

An employee in this class is responsible for ensuring the efficiency, productivity and effective performance of a team at either the Stormwater Operations or Wastewater Collections Division. Under direction, the employee performs tasks of more than average difficulty requiring the exercise of considerable initiative and independent judgment. An important aspect of this job is coaching, motivating and training of team members. Work is reviewed through conferences, reports submitted, and results obtained.

Examples of Duties

Monitors and evaluates work practices for improved team productivity; schedules resources for team members' growth; assists in maintaining continuous 30-day forecast of resources and projects; evaluates performance measures; evaluates work practices.

Coordinates job assignments; monitors and supports field operations; resolves team conflicts; provides safety review.

Attends weekly team meetings with agenda forwarded to leadership; attends quarterly round table evaluations among team leaders.

Develops effective team members to include providing goals and objectives; coaches and motivates other team members; reinforces and supports the use of business skills, technical skills, and team skills; deals with personnel issues and administers discipline when required; communicates needs and expectations; evaluates performance.

Co-develops, reviews, and implements plans and goals; coordinates the work with other teams, support groups, and leadership.

Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Intermediate knowledge of: team dynamics; performance management. Basic knowledge of: scheduling; budgeting.

Intermediate ability to: motivate; organize.

Basic ability to: read and interpret plans and specifications.

Advanced skill in: decision making; communication.

Intermediate skill in: coaching; peer assessment; team building; managing diversity; facilitation; problem solving; conflict resolution; computers.

Desirable skill in: providing feedback.

Personal Characteristics: approachability; compassion; composure; decisiveness; ethics and values.

Areas of Accountabilities: how often personnel conflicts are taken to leadership; number of times team meets performance measures; number of skill blocks obtained per team member; weekly team meetings; assists in maintaining continuous 30-day forecast of resources and projects; quarterly round table evaluations among team leaders.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited high school or vocational school and five (5) years of experience in leading or working in a team environment, preferably with stormwater operations, wastewater collections or comparable industrial experience; or an equivalent combination of training or experience.

Licenses or Certifications

Possession of a valid Florida driver’s license.

Examination

Evaluation of education and experience. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment processing.

Comments

During periods when the Mayor issues an emergency declaration for the City of Tampa, all employees may be required to work in preparation, response or recovery activities related to the stated emergency.
