Nature Of Work

An employee in this class is responsible for performing assignments of average difficulty, which include fingerprinting, photographing, and maintaining related files and records. Under general supervision, employee performs tasks, which require exercise of some initiative and independent judgment. Work is reviewed through reports submitted and observation while in progress and upon completion.

Examples of Duties

Processes civil applications utilizing the Live Scan; takes fingerprints for non-criminal requests such as weapons permits, job applicants, employee identification/licensing requirements for businesses; maintains fingerprint files; photographs individuals for identification cards.

Performs data entry into the computer after the fingerprints are scanned; provides other law enforcement agencies with information and photographs from identification files.

Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Some knowledge of: fingerprint procedures; records keeping techniques.

Ability to: file and maintain accurate fingerprint and photographic records; operate photographic and fingerprinting equipment; understand and follow precise oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public; handle confidential information according to procedures in order to maintain their security.

Skill in: operation and maintenance of photographic and fingerprinting equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited high school preferably with one (1) year of experience in data entry, office or other work involving routine use of a computer; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Licenses or Certifications

Completion of an approved fingerprint training course or Crime Scene Technician certification is preferred.

Possession of a valid drivers license may be required.

Examination

Evaluation of education and experience. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment processing.

Comments

Employees may be required to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed. During periods when the Mayor issues an emergency declaration for the City of Tampa, all employees may be required to work in preparation, response or recovery activities related to the stated emergency.
