Performs electrical work in municipal buildings, facilities and plants; installs, maintains, modifies, and repairs electrical fixtures and equipment including power appliances, machinery, overhead circuits, motors, relays, switches, and control boxes up to and including 48OV application and DC voltages; installs wall outlets, and connects motors, appliances, heating and cooling equipment, and transformers.
Makes necessary connections to supply current to facilities and installations including temporary connections for Convention Center events; cuts, threads and installs conduits above and below ground; installs fire alarm boxes and miscellaneous electrical devices including telephone wiring; splices underground cables; operates light and medium automotive equipment, air compressors and miscellaneous electrical tools; analyzes, tests and maintains related fire alarm equipment.
Maintenance and repair of lighting distribution systems to include controllers, opto-splitters, mergers, terminators, wireless data transmission systems (DMX, Ethernet).
Maintains, repairs, and adjusts meters, governors and timers; installs, maintains and repairs electrical motors and generators used in various pumping operations.
May serve as lead worker over lower-level services and/or trades personnel performing installation, maintenance and repair work in municipal buildings and facilities, where required.
Prepares forms and reports and forwards to supervisor for review and approval; prepares requisitions to have work completed, order material, supplies, equipment, etc.; maintains reports and records of servicing and electrical maintenance performed relative to an established preventive maintenance program; prepares sketches of electrical systems layouts and installations.
Cleans vehicles to maintain appearance; checks equipment to be sure it is utilized properly to facilitate safe and proper operation.Helps with general maintenance work including carpentry, painting, plastering, plumbing, and masonry on municipal buildings and facilities as required to keep in working condition.
Uses protective equipment when working in hazardous conditions.
Operates and maintains shop equipment (lathe, milling machine, drill press, table saw, band saw, and other shop machinery); uses precision measuring equipment (calipers, vibration analyzers, micrometers, etc.) to assist with assigned duties.
Operates radio equipment to communicate with necessary parties; operates a variety of automotive equipment.
Working knowledge of: standards, tools, methods, materials, and practices of the electrical trade; occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions, to include work with high voltages; lighting systems and controls with ability to troubleshoot, repair, maintain and program related equipment and accessories, preferably DMX-512A systems.
Some knowledge of: municipal and national electrical codes.
Ability to: interpret and work from technical sketches and blueprints; locate, define, and repair defects in electrical facilities and equipment; perform work requiring physical strength and endurance; plan, layout, install, alter, repair, and maintain a variety of electrical systems and equipment; train lower-level personnel, where required; establish effective working relationships with others; understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
Skill in: use and care of standard tools, equipment, and testing devices of the electrical trade; operation of motor vehicles.
Graduation from an accredited high school or GED, and one (1) year in electrical maintenance or experience as a licensed Journeyman electrician.
Possession of:
Evaluation of education and experience. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment processing.
