Introduction

This is specialized work in performing and assisting in the teaching of theatre as well as in assisting in the designing and building of items for theatrical production.

Nature Of Work

An employee in this class is responsible for performing in touring theatrical productions; assisting with the design and/or creation of props, sets, and costumes; assisting in teaching theatre/art classes, workshops, and camps at various community centers.  The ideal candidate will have experience in more than one aspect of theatre production and will be passionate about theatre education and theatre for youth.  Work is reviewed through observation, conferences, and results obtained.


Examples of Duties

Creative Arts Theatre

Rehearse and perform when on tour. Plan, organize, and oversee specialized theatre education initiatives; stimulate interest and enthusiasm of various age groups in theatre; organize and execute work independently as well as collaboratively; performs duties requiring physical strength and endurance; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.

Visual Arts

Plans, promotes, and conducts recreational programs; teaches and/or oversees fine arts classes; performs in a variety of programs for or fine arts classes for citizens of all ages and abilities.

Operates equipment necessary to studio/workshop needs. 

Develops and teaches classes in fine arts such as ceramics, metalsmithing, drawing, painting, printmaking, fabric, digital arts and/or theatre arts.

Performs clerical work; prepares and submits reports; organizes supply lists for program activities and/or theatre productions; checks in and puts supplies away; assists with inventory of supplies, receives monies from class participants and enters information into our tracking system, maintains records, logs, lists, and forms.

Inspects recreational/studio/workshop facilities and equipment to ensure safety; enforces proper safety practices, and occupational safety rules and regulations; oversees operations of assigned area in absence of higher-level workers; ensures security of building.

Directs visitors at center; answers phone and provides information concerning programs and use of centers.

Performs related work as required and all additional duties assigned by supervisor.


 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Working knowledge of:  

Creative Arts Theatre
Acting and theatre production.

Visual Arts
Ceramics, metalsmithing, drawing, painting, printmaking, fabric, and digital arts

Some knowledge of: 

Creative Arts Theatre
Rehearsal and performance process and protocol; theatre production; the use and care of tools and equipment pertinent to theatre production.

Visual Arts
Recreational programming and fine arts

Ability to

Instructional ability:

Creative Arts Theatre
Passion for theatre education and some teaching experience preferred.

Visual Arts
Some teaching experience preferred

Preferred skill in:

Creative Arts Theatre
Acting; theatrical design; theatrical construction; use and care of pertinent equipment.

Visual Arts
Some teaching experience; familiarity with ceramics, arts, and fabrics

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited high school with six (6) months of experience in specialized recreation programs, preferably in an instructional or theatrical performance capacity; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Licenses or Certifications

A valid Florida driver's license is preferred

Examination

Evaluation of education and experience. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment processing.

Comments

Employees may be required to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed. During periods when the Mayor issues an emergency declaration for the City of Tampa, all employees may be required to work in preparation, response or recovery activities related to the stated emergency.
