Performs clerical work during the receipt, sorting and tracking of mail or parcel packages.
Follows a predetermined schedule; picks up, sorts and delivers interdepartmental and U.S. postal mail to various City departments and the U.S. Post Office using a City vehicle.
Reviews information for accuracy and routes to proper departments; participates in maintaining office files and records; handles confidential documents according to procedures in order to maintain security;
Loads and unloads vehicle used in City mail and supply deliveries.
Operates various types of postal equipment used in processing U.S. Mail, including an address printer, postal scale, envelope inserter and postage meter.
Creates manual or computer generated shipping labels for FedEx and/or UPS packages.
Provides information to departments regarding City mail procedures and U.S. Postal requirements and regulations; provides bulk mailing rates and materials to requesting departments.
Operates, cleans, and performs minor adjustments and limited maintenance on various office machines and equipment.
Positions may also require proficiency in typing and in operation of computer equipment and software.
Performs related work as required.
Working knowledge of: business English and mathematics; standard office practices, procedures and equipment related to the assigned area; operation of computers and software packages may be required.
Some knowledge of: rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Ability to: understand and follow oral and written instructions; prepare reports; maintain accurate records; greet the public and establish effective working relationships with others; train other employees when required.
Ability and skill in: operation and minor maintenance of office machinery and equipment; typing and operating computers accurately, when required.
Employees may be required to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed. During periods when the Mayor issues an emergency declaration for the City of Tampa, all employees may be required to work in preparation, response or recovery activities related to the stated emergency.
