Nature Of Work
An employee in this class is responsible for leading and teaching fine arts programs such as Visual Arts activities for citizens of all ages and abilities. Tasks are of average difficulty and include teaching, instructing, and participating in a variety of activities. Under general supervision, the employee in this class of work performs the assigned tasks independently. The employee is required to exercise some initiative and independent judgement in planning and conducting activities for all ages and abilities. The employee might be required to work varying schedules which might include nights and weekends, and to travel to various locations. Work is reviewed through observation, conferences, reports submitted, and results obtained.
Examples of Duties
Visual Art positions: Plans, promotes, and conducts recreational programs; teaches and/or oversees fine arts or Visual arts classes for citizens of all ages and abilities. Develops and teaches classes in fine arts such as ceramics, metalsmithing, drawing, painting, printmaking, fabric, children's summer camps, and/or digital arts.
Assists in maintaining cleanliness and organization of studio areas. loading/unloading ceramic and glass kilns may also be required.
Performs clerical work; prepares and submits reports; organizes supply lists for program activities; checks in and puts supplies away; assists with inventory of supplies, receives monies from class participants and enters information into our tracking system, maintains records, logs, lists, and forms.
Inspects recreational/studio/workshop facilities and equipment to ensure safety; enforces proper safety practices, and occupational safety rules and regulations; oversees operations of assigned area in absence of higher-level workers; ensures security of building.
Directs visitors at center; answers phone and provides information concerning programs and use of centers.
Performs related work as required and all additional duties assigned by supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Working knowledge of: teaching techniques, materials, care and use of equipment applicable to a wide variety of recreation, Visual fine art activities, and special events.
Some knowledge of: First aid and CPR; basic records keeping.
Ability to: coordinate, Teach and conduct programs in Visual fine Arts; counsel and advise participants; maintain records and compile reports; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, community groups, and the public; perform activities requiring moderate physical strength and endurance; plan and conduct Visual Art programs and classes; work with citizens of all age groups and abilities.
Skill in: administering first aid and CPR; care/maintenance of equipment such as loading and unloading of pottery and/or glass kilns; mixing glazes for classes, operating power tools for studio/workshop needs; or operating sound and light systems for theatrical productions.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited high school and completion of one (1) year of college with coursework in Visual Arts or a closely related field, with one (1) year of experience Visual Arts in an instructional capacity; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Licenses or Certifications
Possession of a Standard First Aid Certificate; CPR Certificate within six (6) months of appointment
Valid Florida driver’s license
Examination
Evaluation of education and experience. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment processing.
Comments
Employees may be required to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed. During periods when the Mayor issues an emergency declaration for the City of Tampa, all employees may be required to work in preparation, response or recovery activities related to the stated emergency.
