An employee in this class is responsible for performing an
analysis of the City’s Occupational Health Services and cases to identify
patterns, trends, and common characteristics using broad nursing knowledge and
clinical experience combined with leadership and educational skills. Work is of average difficulty in ensuring Occupational
health nursing is focused on the promotion, protection, and restoration of
workers’ health within the context of a safe and healthy work environment.
Under general supervision, the employee exercises reasonable initiative and
independent judgment in collaborating with workers, employees, and other
professionals to: identify health needs, prioritize interventions, develop and
implement interventions and programs, and evaluate care and service delivery.
Work is reviewed through observation and results achieved.
Direct, supervise and evaluate work activities of medical,
nursing, technical, clerical, service, and other personnel.
Develop and maintain computerized record management systems to
store and process data, such as personnel activities and information, and to
produce reports.
Plan, implement, and administer programs and services in a health
care or medical facility, including personnel administration, training, and
coordination of medical, nursing and physical plant staff.
Conduct and administer fiscal operations, including accounting,
planning budgets, authorizing expenditures, establishing rates for services,
and coordinating financial reporting.
In cooperation with Risk Management team serve as the medical
liaison between injured workers, departments, external medical professionals,
and third-party administrator; gather information needed to assist with return
to work and medical maximum improvement for injured workers.
Identify issues and trends impacting the Workers Compensation
Program and work collaboratively to implement process improvements.
Work to create a healthier
and safe work environment to reduce disability, work-related injuries, and
cost; promote safety and health policies through education and training of
employees in the risk they may face; work to identify workplace hazards.
Serve as part of the internal worker’s compensation claims
investigative process with the risk team as needed.
Makes appropriate referrals according to internal worker’s
compensation practice and procedures when interacting with injured employees;
conduct worker’s compensation medical file reviews as requested.
Participate in meetings as they relate to occupational health and
injuries; maintain accurate documentation and records as they relate to all
past and new worker’s compensation claims.
Maintain awareness of advances in medicine, computerized
diagnostic and treatment equipment, data processing technology, government
regulations, health insurance changes, and financing options.
Establish objectives and evaluative or operational criteria for
units managed.
Develop and implement organizational policies and procedures for
the facility or medical unit.
Review and analyze facility activities and data to aid planning
and cash and risk management and to improve service utilization.
Prepare activity reports to inform management of the status and
implementation plans of programs, services, and quality initiatives.
Develop or expand and implement medical programs or health
services that promote research, rehabilitation, and community health.
Consult with medical, business, and community groups to discuss
service problems, respond to community needs, enhance public relations,
coordinate activities and plans, and promote health programs.
Develop instructional materials and conduct in-service and
community-based educational programs.
Inspect facilities and recommend building or equipment
modifications to ensure emergency readiness and compliance to access, safety,
and sanitation regulations.
Coordinates on-site vaccination programs; ensures employees are
educated on all aspects of care provided prior to delivery of services.
Provides health and wellness information to employees verbally and
via literature; participates in innovative projects to improve and maintain
employees’ health and wellness; provides educational sessions to groups of
employees on health, wellness and safety topics.
Demonstrates professional development;
strives to continue learning and remain proficient in occupational health
nursing skills.
Maintains strict confidentiality of all
medically related information.
Performs related work as required.
Considerable knowledge of: standard nursing practice; medication
administration; maintenance of confidentiality; general injury and illness
pathophysiology and standard treatment; basic first aid; general patient
assessment.
Working knowledge of: department rules, regulations and applicable
standards; use of computers where required; medical reference resources.
Ability to: solve complex problems; think critically; understand and follow
complex oral and written instructions; communicate effectively with members of
all health care disciplines, employees, and others; work with individuals of
the public; maintain medical records.
Ability and skill in: providing educational programs; counseling employees on
difficult health issues; promoting a trusting relationship with employees;
researching health related topics utilizing multiple sources; coordinating
employee appointments and maintaining schedule.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in nursing, health, or business administration; master’s degree preferred, five (5) years’ experience as a registered nurse in an occupational health setting with 3 years of supervisory experience. ARNPs with 3+ years of experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
First
responder occupational health experience a plus!
Possession of:
Evaluation of education and experience. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment processing.
Employees
may be required to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays,
and overtime as needed. During periods when the Mayor issues an emergency
declaration for the City of Tampa, all employees may be required to work in
preparation, response or recovery activities related to the stated emergency.
