An employee in this class is responsible for performing a variety of high-level budget related assignments of more than average difficulty in support of City Council, which includes reviewing monthly items before council or annual and multi-year budgets which require council decisions; making budget projections; suggesting cost-cutting measures; reviewing expenditure requests; and preparing various financial reports. This is skilled professional level work. Under general supervision, employees must exercise reasonable initiative and independent judgment in ensuring that timely, efficient and effective budget related services are provided to City Council, selecting work methods and performing assigned tasks. Work is reviewed through oral and written reports, discussion, and results obtained. This is an appointed unclassified position.
Considerable knowledge of: government operations, budgeting and public policy.
Skill in: quantitative and qualitative analysis.
Ability to: work under tight deadlines; work on the weekends and/or during the evening hours as needed; multitasking on several projects at one time; express clearly and concisely both in writing and orally.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred) in accounting, finance, public or business administration or a related field and three (3) years in governmental budgetary/finance experience, with experience in the use electronic tools to develop spreadsheets and conduct routine business.

The ideal candidate will have professional level experience in public policy, economics, finance, business, or government administration, with a demonstrated interest in public service and superior writing skills.
Possession of a valid drivers’ license required.
Certified Government Finance Officer (CGFO) certification is preferred.
Evaluation of education and experience. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment processing.
