Introduction
This is responsible database administration and systems analysis work.
Nature Of Work
An employee in this class is responsible for supporting DevOps on-premise, managing IIS and Apache web servers, and maintaining Red Hat Linux distributions. The employee works closely with software development, QA, and IT teams to ensure smooth integration and deployment of applications and serves as the primary point of contact for new projects and initiatives, offering technical expertise and architectural insights. Although under general supervision, employees are expected to exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment in selecting work methods and performing assigned tasks. An employee in this class may be subject to on-call status on a rotating basis to provide 24-hour/7 day service. Work is reviewed while in progress and upon completion through discussions and reports submitted.
Examples of Duties
Work closely with software development, QA, and IT teams to ensure smooth integration and deployment of applications. Serve as the primary point of contact for new projects and initiatives, offering technical expertise and architectural insights. Develops and drives DevOps maturity by automating builds, regression testing, monitoring, and pushing releases across environments. Troubleshoots, triages, and resolves issues related to CI/CD pipeline failures or slowness.
Develops and/or modifies database systems from specifications; develops and/or modifies production job configurations and executions as needed; prepares database specifications and scheduled production job specifications from functional and technical system design; assists in technical systems design from functional specifications; develops documentation or modifies existing documentation for applications and production executions according to standards.
Designs and develops data conversion processes using industry standard methodologies to extract, transform, and load data from source to target databases for use in reporting, migrations, or upgrades; prepares test data and verifies system results; analyzes and resolves system problems; consults with users, project team members (both technical and functional) on questions or problems.
Participates in training programs to develop new skills and maintain existing competencies; conducts training sessions; assists in the preparation and delivery of user training programs.
Analyzes problems and implements solutions; consults with functional team members, users, and technical project team members on technical questions; coordinates, schedules, assigns, and monitors the work of technical project team members.
Conducts cost/benefit analyses; conducts technical research and prepares and presents reports on findings; coordinates system conversion efforts; analyzes network infrastructure and software and makes recommendations for improvements; evaluates, acquires, and coordinates upgrades/installations.
Coordinates system conversion efforts and performs necessary tasks; prepares test data and verifies system test results; analyzes and resolves system problems; consults with users and technical and functional project team members on questions or problems.
Coordinates system/disaster recovery efforts and performs necessary tasks related to recovery requirements, documentation, testing, and resolves restoration problems.
Performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Considerable knowledge of: DevOps Server CI/CD Pipeline management. All SQL Server versions in Microsoft mainstream or extended support; data analysis techniques, database systems within virtual environments; understanding of relational database design; understanding of data warehouse concepts.
Working knowledge of: Desired experience in Windows Operating Systems current version SQL Server Reporting Services, SQL Server Integration Services, SQL Server Management Studio, Microsoft Office, Azure DevOps.
Ability to: Implement/maintain/support databases; analysis/needs assessments for database related requests; performing ETL functions; perform production change control; troubleshoot database/ server/storage issues.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field and two (2) years of experience in business systems (analyzing data and manual systems for data processing application) OR An equivalent combination of education (not less than possession of a high school diploma/GED), training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job related competencies noted above.
Examination
Evaluation of education and experience. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment processing.
Comments
Employees may be required to work rotating shifts,
including nights, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed. During periods
when the Mayor issues an emergency declaration for the City of Tampa, all
employees may be required to work in preparation, response or recovery
activities related to the stated emergency.
