Patrols an assigned area within city limits; issues citations for vehicles violating parking ordinances; observes and reports abandoned vehicles; requests impounding of certain vehicles with delinquent parking tickets; may participate in immobilization (booting) of such vehicles.
Verifies and reports non-working parking meters; reports accidents and summons assistance, when needed; reports unattended small children left in parked cars; assists in emergency situations.
Checks monthly parking and other permits on cars to ensure that they are valid.
Answers questions relative to such matters as transportation service, points of interest, buildings, and business establishment locations, proper usage of loading zones, handicapped and other parking areas.
Appears in court when necessary; prepares and submits daily work sheets and copies of parking tickets issued.
Performs a variety of general traffic maintenance section duties; assists with field installation of signs; works at special event functions, installing traffic cones and barricades, placing directional signs, setting up detour signs, directing pedestrian flow, etc.
Performs related work as required.
Knowledge of: traffic codes and parking regulations. Knowledge of the city and its geography, methods, practices, materials, tools and equipment used in parking enforcement operation; the use and operation of a handheld computerized ticketing system.
Ability to: communicate effectively and courteously with the general public; enforce parking regulations tactfully, firmly, and impartially; react quickly and calmly in emergencies; perform considerable exercise and walk long distances in various weather conditions; lift and install immobilization device (boot) weighing 50 pounds when required; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; maintain records and prepare reports.
Mostly outside work, able to lift up to 50 lbs., stand, works
outdoors very frequently. Requires some use of computer, typing and viewing a
monitor.
Satisfactory completion of a sixteen (16) hour training program established and approved by the Florida State Police Standards and Training Commission under the provisions of section 316.640, Florida Statutes.
Possession of a valid Florida driver's license required.
