Plans, promotes and conducts recreational activities; teaches and oversees games and sports activities; organizes sports, social activities and special events; assists participants in use of computer labs; schedules center and playground activities; counsels participants; oversees and teaches persons of all ages; may be required to transport participants in department vehicle or travel between sites.
Plans preschool programs and projects; teaches reading readiness, math concepts and personal hygiene; purchases snacks and supplies for participants; counsels parents, when necessary, on such subjects as nutrition and proper diet; attends recreational events/programs in order to assist participants.
Maintains discipline at assigned area and confers with parents regarding severe discipline problems; teaches fair play and sportsmanship; administers first aid; promotes safety; maintains athletic equipment; performs field maintenance as necessary; maintains inventory of supplies; submits requisitions for needed repairs and supplies; maintains parent/participant conference forms.
Receives monies from class participants; writes receipts for supplies and equipment; restocks supplies; oversees operation and maintenance of assigned area as required.
Attends and conducts sessions at meetings, workshops and training clinics; coordinates special programs, events, and travel arrangements; coordinates programs and activities with coworkers and supervisor; promotes good public relations with community.
Maintains accurate records; verifies purchase orders and requisitions and maintains records of transactions; prepares and submits periodic reports; performs clerical work such as typing or filing; orders supplies, equipment, etc.
Operates audiovisual equipment such as tape players, film and slide projectors for recreational shows and productions.
Inspects recreational facilities, apparatus, and equipment to ensure safety and cleanliness; enforces proper safety practices and occupational safety rules and regulations to prevent hazardous conditions and protect employees and the public from harm; oversees operation of assigned area in absence of higher level workers; ensures security of building when leaving area.
Performs related work as required.
Knowledge of: techniques relating to a wide variety of recreation activities; basic record keeping; instructional techniques.
Skill in: administering first aid and CPR; care and maintenance of recreational equipment.
Ability to: provide leadership in coordinating and conducting recreational activities; provide instruction to participants engaged in group games and sports; counsel and advise participants; stimulate public participation and support for recreational activities; maintain records and compile reports; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, civic groups, and the general public; perform activities requiring light to moderate physical exertion; operate a light motor vehicle if required.
Mostly standing, recreation and a combination of working
indoors and outdoors. Requires some use
of computer, typing and viewing a monitor
