Responsible for all aspects of a design of a stormwater engineering project; prepares engineering cost estimates for construction costs; acts as project manager for stormwater engineering development projects; coordinates plans within department, with other municipal departments and outside sources, such as contractors, engineering firms, and governmental agencies; provides input and reviews development or revisions of rules, regulations, ordinances, and correspondence; reads and interprets site plans, technical drawings and diagrams to determine conformance with technical standards; reviews building construction plans and specifications to ensure that they are in conformance with codes.
Reviews laboratory test reports and investigates failures of materials to meet specifications; prepares specifications and researches use of new materials; determines bid items and quantities for project contracts; prepares engineer’s estimate and bid specifications for project contracts; performs calculations and prepares detailed geometric designs for stormwater ponds and pump station rehabilitation projects.
Coordinates stormwater projects with construction engineers, inspectors, private utilities, City services, other City Departments and contractors during design and construction phase; prepares or facilitates all permits for construction of the stormwater projects; drafts and coordinates complaint responses to residents, City Council and City administration; monitors and coordinates customer service center and website inquiries.
Performs related work as required.
Working knowledge of: the principles and practices of municipal civil engineering; federal, state, and municipal rules, regulations, ordinances, and other pertinent documents; developments and information in the assigned field of engineering.
Ability to: plan, organize and engage in a variety of engineering assignments; analyze, design and prepare complete engineering plans and specification packages, technical drawings and diagrams,; oversee the in-house and consultant production for the hard design of stormwater gravity conveyance systems in urban rights-of-ways, ponds and pumping station rehabilitations, stormwater forcemains, analyze engineering data and draw sound conclusions; prepare and submit reports, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and the general public.
Possession of a valid Florida driver's license required.
Engineering Intern (EI) designation preferred.
