Maintains, troubleshoots and repairs small and large capacity finished and raw water pumps and valves; identifies and corrects causes of mechanical failure of equipment; maintains and repairs pneumatic and hydraulic equipment; maintains diesel driven and turbine driven emergency generator equipment.
Assists in the preparation of mechanical sketches of system layouts and installations; installs and aligns various types of shaft driven equipment; removes, repairs and/or replaces valves, couplings, bearings, gears, seals and other malfunctioning mechanical components.
Performs general welding and metal cutting tasks; repairs, replaces and installs PVC and metal piping systems; performs basic carpentry, painting and other related building repairs.
Performs related work as required.
Considerable knowledge of: maintenance and repair of small and large capacity pumps, mechanical drives, mixers, gear boxes, valves, and small power appliances; hydraulic systems and pneumatic systems.
Working knowledge of: occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions.
Ability to: assume a lead capacity and oversee other employees; locate, define, repair or modify defects in various mechanical equipment; interpret and work from equipment technical sketches and blueprints; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; work with and make repairs to/or install PVC pipe, copper pipe or tubing and other types of piping systems or materials; perform general welding and metal cutting, carpentry, painting and related building repair work.
Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s license is required.
Possession of, or ability to attain, within 18 months: Certification for Basic Mechanical and Level I Mechanical Skills.
