Plans, assigns and supervises the work of subordinates; is responsible for discipline within the company; serves as a liaison between subordinates and upper levels of management; counsels subordinates as required; is responsible for understanding and interpreting the Rules and Regulations and Standard Operating Guidelines (SOG), accurate dissemination of information, and any other communications of a departmental nature.
Trains subordinates in firefighting, rescue, and pump and ladder operations; assesses need for special training and arranges for provision; completes subordinates performance evaluations; delegates assignments to subordinates.
Is responsible for physical safety of personnel and equipment assigned to the company; observes personnel for fatigue and proper use of protective clothing and equipment; supervises maintenance and testing of equipment to ensure that proper methods are used.
Performs fireground command functions unless relieved by higher authority; is responsible for attainment of goals and objectives at the company level; maintains records and prepares reports; coordinates with Division/District Chief on the manning level within the company; authorizes time off, e.g. exchange of time, R day changes or additional annual leave, that impacts the level of service delivery capabilities of the company.
Plans and organizes functions required under the work management program; completes budget request forms; prepares and submits various repair and equipment replacement forms.
Performs related work as required.
Extensive knowledge of: firefighting techniques and equipment and its use; fireground command procedures.
Considerable knowledge of: the characteristics of fire; search and rescue techniques and equipment; management responsibilities.
Working knowledge of: standard reports and forms, their completion and purposes.
Ability to: maintain a positive attitude and create a motivational atmosphere for subordinates; demonstrate acceptable physical fitness as determined by established departmental standards; manage time efficiently and effectively; effectively communicate both orally and writing; work cooperatively and interact effectively with all types of people in a variety of situations; analyze problems and develop viable solutions; enforce the safety steps necessary to protect self and subordinates at fires and other emergencies; initiate action and actively influence events; evaluate subordinates performance, recommend improvements and conduct training.
Skill in: the use and care of firefighting and rescue tools and equipment.
Must currently be a Driver Engineer or Rescue Lieutenant to sit for exam and be promoted:

Possession of:
A valid Florida driver's license Class E.
Current State of Florida, Department of Health, Bureau of EMS certification as an EMT B.
