Introduction

This is work involving the operation and maintenance of a municipal docking facility.

Nature Of Work

Employees in this class are responsible for performing tasks of routine difficulty in assisting the Dock Master with administrative and technical aspects of operating a municipal marina. An important responsibility is ensuring that the amounts of payments received for slip rentals and other marina related products and services are correct. Employees are also required to perform basic maintenance to marina facilities as needed. Employees are expected to exercise some initiative and independent judgement, as well as tact and courtesy, in contacts with customers. Work might be performed on assigned shifts, including nights and weekends. Employees might be required to work in inclement weather. Work is performed under general supervision and reviewed through observation and balancing of cash receipts and records.

Examples of Duties

Performs cashiering tasks for municipal marinas and basin mooring facilities: calculates payment due based on pre-established rate schedules; calculates and gives appropriate change; at end of shift, counts money from cash registers and prepares work sheet recording receipts; researches cash imbalances by comparing tickets to receipts to locate errors.

Provides prompt and efficient service to customers, particularly during peak operating periods; provides environmental and weather condition updates to boaters; facilitates boat and slips repairs and transport connections; answers the telephone and provides nontechnical information and explains established, well-defined rules, policies and procedures.

Ensures security of municipal buildings and inventory as required.

Performs general maintenance work including carpentry, painting, mechanical, and electrical work; is responsible for grounds keeping of municipal facilities and grounds.

Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Some knowledge of: the procedures and techniques of the maintenance and operation of a docking facility.

Ability to: receive cash, record payments, and calculate and give change with accuracy; understand and follow oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; work outdoors in inclement weather, standing for long periods of time.

Ability to learn: rules, regulations, procedures, and functions of a municipal marina.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited high school and one (1) year of experience in retail sales and customer service and six (6) months of experience in boating procedures and laws; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Licenses or Certifications

Possession of a valid Florida driver's license required.

Comments

During periods when the Mayor issues an emergency declaration for the City of Tampa, all employees may be required to work in preparation, response or recovery activities related to the stated emergency.
