Seasonal for Spring Semester

Introduction

Seasonal student internship for the Fall semester.

Part-time work up to 25 hrs. per week.

Nature Of Work

The City of Tampa internship provides students at the junior, senior or graduate level with exposure to a professional municipal government environment to gain knowledge and develop skills. The student would be assigned to a specific department based on their major with an emphasis on the government’s obligation to the public and the role the department plays in providing internal support or external services. Students should be prepared to dedicate up to 25 hours per week during a semester for maximum benefit.

Examples of Duties

Assist with the creation of engaging and shareable content for city’s social media platforms regarding various initiatives.

Assist with the planning and execution of community events.

Assist with outreach to community partners to promote city events and programs.

Participate in internal and external community meetings with staff to see firsthand the process of informing and soliciting support of citizens on city projects.

Assist with monitoring workforce trends.

Research policy and benchmark opportunities.

Assist with external stakeholder communications to ensure their specific requirements are appropriately documented and considered for decision making.

Conduct surveys to gather information on customer opinion of rendered services.

Update databases such as non-profit organizations that provide resources to citizens.

Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to: follow complex instructions, assimilate information, interpret written and numerical data, and arrive at logical conclusions, locate, organize, and analyze data from files, the internet and other records; prepare and edit clear and concise written reports, establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, municipal officials, and the general public.

Skill in: keyboarding, operating personal computers; basic operation and office machinery and equipment; MS PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.

Minimum Qualifications

Current enrolled college student at the junior, senior or graduate level.

Licenses or Certifications

Possession of a valid driver's license is preferred.

Examination

Evaluation of education and experience. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment processing.
