Coordinates facilities and property improvements and repairs through various funding sources.
Oversees and manages projects for the department to assure minimal disruption of services to the station personnel and general public.
Communicates with other fire departments, fire and rescue apparatus manufacturers, vendors, and others to obtain necessary information on fire and rescue apparatus.
Participates in future planning, research, technical specifications, test and evaluation, procurements, warranty work, and initial acceptance testing and service life of fire and rescue apparatus.
Coordinates and manages the purchasing of vehicles for Tampa Fire Rescue (TFR) fleet; works with Fleet Maintenance to retrieve or dispose of vehicles and fire rescue apparatus.
Develops and coordinates annual testing re-certification process for the aerial ladder devices, and coordinates periodic testing of TFR ground ladders and the pump testing/certification for TFR fire engines.
Responds to any supplemental projects, duties, or other areas of concern as directed or assigned by the Assistant Fire Chief of Administration.
Researches information and prepares reports of findings.
Attends meetings, participates on committee and performs training functions as requested by the Fire Chief; carries out special assignments as required.
Plans, assigns, schedules, supervises, and reviews the work of subordinates; recommends actions such as employment, promotions, transfers, demotions, suspensions, and dismissals; responds to requests for leave; completes performance evaluations and administers required discipline.
Performs related work as required.
Working knowledge of: plans review, materials and practices; research and report preparation methods; apparatus construction and the mechanics thereof; property improvement and repairs; annual testing and re-certification process; effective supervisory techniques.
Ability to: oversee and manage projects; perform research, analyze data and prepare technical reports; manage and research vehicle procurement; develop and maintain effective working relationships with department personnel, representatives of other agencies, and the general public.
Ability to lift 20-40 lbs., A combination of standing, walking, working indoors and outdoors. Requires frequent use of computer, typing and viewing a monitor.
Graduation from an accredited high school or vocational school, completion of two (2) years of college in building construction, engineering technology, automotive technology, or a related field and three (3) years of experience in the development of specifications and/or vehicle maintenance related work and overseeing of projects; or graduation from an accredited high school or vocational school and five (5) years of experience in the development of specifications and/or vehicle maintenance related work and overseeing of projects; and six (6) months in supervisory experience.
NOTE: ASE or EVT certification may be substituted for the college requirement. (Attachment of certificate is required to give credit)
Evaluation of education and experience. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment processing.
