Nature Of Work
An employee in this class is responsible for preparing landscape architectural drawings for improvements to Parks and Recreation Department lands and facilities, public rights-of-way, and other city properties. The employee is also responsible for municipal site planning, coordination, and design activities. Tasks are of more than average difficulty and require that the employee possess technical knowledge of landscape architecture professional tasks. Under general supervision, the employee is required to exercise reasonable initiative and independent judgment in overseeing medium to large-scale projects of medium to high complexity. Work is reviewed through conferences, reports while in progress, and site observations prior, during, and following construction activities, and site inspections upon completion.
Examples of Duties
Prepares landscape architectural drawings for park and recreation improvement projects; site analysis; conceptual to final design construction documentation; specifications; estimating. Oversees the installation of parks and recreation capital improvements and the completion of park and facility improvements being completed by outside contractors for conformance with approved plans and specifications. Purchases plant materials necessary for completion of projects; estimates costs, obtains price information, and locates materials as needed. Participates in municipal park planning; prepares and executes grant applications for park projects. Performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of: landscape architecture principles and practices; Florida plant materials, local codes and regulations, ordinances relative to outdoor capital improvements.
Ability to: design using computer aided drafting and design software; direct and oversee the work of crews engaged in landscaping and irrigation projects; coordinate with contractors on small projects, establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Physical Requirements
Mostly outside work, able to lift up to 50 lbs., stand, works
outdoors very frequently. Requires some use of computer, typing and viewing a
monitor.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture or ornamental horticulture and one (1) year of experience in landscape architecture; or an associate’s degree in landscape architecture or ornamental horticulture and three (3) years of experience in landscape architecture.
Licenses or Certifications
Registration in the State of Florida as a Landscape Architect; or, registration from another state with the ability to obtain Florida registration within six (6) months of employment.
Possession of a valid drivers license required.
Examination
Evaluation of education and experience. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment processing.
Comments
Employees may be required to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed. During periods when the Mayor issues an emergency declaration for the City of Tampa, all employees may be required to work in preparation, response or recovery activities related to the stated emergency.
