Acts as a lead technician in planning jobs, training, and overseeing work of junior technicians.
Builds control panels; collects and processes wastewater samples; inspects, maintains, and repairs buildings; installs and maintains communication systems; reads and understands electrical and blue prints; uses AutoCAD to update and create drawings and prints; monitors and records readings on all equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures.
Performs: electrical wiring; preventive maintenance on process control equipment; corrective and preventive maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment; mechanical shaft alignments to include dial indicator and laser alignments.
Operates, adjusts and monitors wastewater treatment process equipment; uses hand tools, power tools, and specialized electrical testing and calibration equipment.
Performs wet chemistry tests such as titrations, extractions, etc.; calibrations on instruments, analyzers, etc.; operates/maintains analytical instrumentation (analyzers, spectrometers).
Operates and maintains heavy equipment, odor control systems and chemical feed systems; safely and properly unloads chemical deliveries from tanker trucks and rail cars; estimates material, labor, and equipment requirements; fabricates support structures and piping systems and provides support for new projects.
Writes standard operating procedures; demonstrates tasks to lower level employees for training purposes; maintains current knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) information and procedures.
Performs related work as required.
Knowledge of: basic safety practices; unit control panels; electrical switchgear, transformers and power distribution systems; the principles of wastewater treatment processes; emergency response procedures and proper communications procedures.
Ability to: establish and maintain productive working relationships with co-workers and the public; understand and follow written and oral instructions; lift 50 pounds; climb ladders; work in confined spaces; utilize basic safety practices (e.g. lockout/tagout, MSDS); apply intermediate computer skills; demonstrate electrical safety procedures; collect and analyze data and generate reports; demonstrate correct task performance to lower level employees; operate specialized equipment such as manlift and mansafe retrieval hoist; operate heavy equipment; identify proper mechanical lubrication requirements and applications; identify various types of electrical equipment; monitor and record readings on all equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures.
Skill in: use of hand tools; use of small power tools.
Current Wastewater AWT employees – Must meet all criteria for Level III on the AWTP job skills matrix.
External Applicants - Graduation from an accredited high school or GED with six (6) years of wastewater experience; or an equivalent combination of related training and experience.
Evaluation of education and experience. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment processing.
