The City of Tucson is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill the position of Economic Development Director. The successful candidate will report to the City Manager and is responsible for promoting business and economic development within the City.

This management position involves planning, directing, and coordinating the Economic Development Program for the City of Tucson.

Essential Functions

Consults with representatives of industry and business to determine requirements and potential for industrial, business, and employment development in the community; explains and provides advice on City policies, services, and supportive activities relative to economic development.
Consults with governmental and private agencies to determine availability of financial, material, educational, and service resources for economic development programs. 
Coordinates with industrial, business, governmental, and private organizations in developing long and short range plans for economic development programs.
Directs and participates in research activities to determine the economic development potential of City areas and neighborhoods; recommends viable courses of action and development plans to accomplish goals.
Reviews existing industrial facilities to identify present or potential problems affecting retention; recommends methods of problem resolution.
Investigates economic development grant sources; directs the preparation of and reviews grant applications.
Initiates and manages capital improvement projects related to economic development; negotiates the condition of purchases and sales of selected properties.
Interprets City economic development policies; prepares and recommends policies and legislation pertaining to economic development matters.
Prepares reports, brochures, statistical data, and informational materials; addresses community groups and organizations on matters pertaining to economic development in the community. 
Selects, assigns, trains, and supervises professional, technical, and clerical personnel; reviews and evaluates personnel and program performance.
Administers economic development funds; allocates funds and City resources to industrial development projects; prepares and administers the office operating and capital budgets.
Performs related work and project assignments as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: Bachelor's Degree in Public or Business Administration

Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 7 years of experience in municipal government management activities

Valid Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the experience and education requirements that are outlined above, City leaders have identified the following as preferred qualifications:

10 years of relevant economic development experience

Experienced in jurisdictions with a population of at least 250,000

Certified Economic Developer (CEcD)
