Constable I (#MBBE01)
Description of Occupational WorkThis class series uses two levels and describes court enforcement work, serving and executing a wide variety of legal documents consisting of civil and criminal court orders in accordance with court rules and procedures. Work includes exercising independent judgment and discretion in handling potentially explosive situations. In performing their work, employees in this class normally work alone, are responsible for covering large areas of the state and have the power of arrest. A significant aspect of this work is dealing firmly but courteously with hostile members of the public.
Note: This career ladder series incorporates the Constable I and Constable II. Based on the level of work applicable to the employing agency and functional area, positions can be allocated up to level the Constable II. The Constable I level is to provide entry for hiring new employees into the class series but does not preclude hiring new employees at higher levels. Employees may be promoted through the career ladder in accordance with job requirements and promotional standards. Promotional standards, a selection document under separate cover, sets forth the criteria that defines and describes the requirements that must be met at each level. Advancement of employees through the career ladder is dependent on an agency's/department's operational needs and distribution of work. Levels of WorkConstable I
This is the first level of constable work performing the full range of Essential Functions under close supervision.
Constable II This is the second level of constable work.
