This class is responsible for supervising the writing, editing, design, layout and printing of all State Parks' brochures, program guides and other literature directed at the public and design, fabrication and installation of statewide exhibits and development of other media.
Supervises a Graphics Specialist II and seasonals.
Nature and Scope
This position reports to a Park Administrator I. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring a consistent voice and style for all State Park's publications. The incumbent is also responsible for ensuring publications and interpretive media (interpretative signage, exhibits and videos) are distinctive, attractive and informative to the public. Working with park personnel and contractors in order to meet the park's needs and within their budget restraints is a significant aspect of the work. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for designing, renovating, restoring and/or furnishing rooms at historical sites. The incumbent serves on divisional committees. Principal contacts are with contractors, Nature Center Managers, park Interpreters, Recreation Specialist, Park Administrators, Park Superintendents, naturalists, museums, historians and cooperating and support groups/organizations (e.g. friends groups).

Plans, assigns, reviews and evaluates the work of subordinate personnel. Participates in the interviewing/selection process. Trains subordinate employees.
Locates and recommends contractors, sets work schedules/deadlines, provides direction on assigned projects, monitors work/progress/project cost and evaluates and approves product.
Meets with park personnel in order to determine their needs, determine whether projects can be done-in-house or needs to be contracted out, estimate cost, schedule/prioritize projects and create distinctive, attractive and interpretive exhibits, media and publications.
Recommends needs such as equipment, supplies and printing for budgetary purposes. Monitors expenditures, writes job specifications and oversees bidding process for contractual design, exhibit fabrication or printing work.
Designs, renovates, restores and/or furnishes rooms at historic sites.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Publications/Exhibits Coordinator
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
Three years experience in exhibit design which includes exhibition and security of artifacts/objects while on display and exhibit label writing.
Three years experience in graphics and printing work such as planning, designing, creating and producing artistic visual materials, utilizing various techniques and equipment for the development of informational/educational media such as publications, exhibits, outdoor signage, displays and brochures.
Three years experience in graphic art and design such as lettering, illustration and layout design.
Six months experience in cultural or historical research which includes analyzing objects/artifacts and compiling documentary summaries which provide historical contexts for exhibits, programs, tours, historical sites, and artifacts.
Six months experience in museum practices such as collection management, research, exhibit design, management and handling of collections, preservation or maintenance of historic buildings, conducting museum educational programs or tours.
