A class incumbent is responsible for directing and managing the operations and activities of a small state hospital, residential or long-term care facility.
Annual operating budget approximately 8 million.
Supervises a staff of approximately 80-90 employees.
Nature and Scope
A class incumbent reports to the facility director and is responsible for patient revenue, budget, support services and may oversee the personnel function as well. Incumbents administer, direct and coordinate the business and service support functions necessary for the provision of appropriate care and medical and/or psychiatric treatment of the patient. Incumbent oversees the daily operation of the hospital and implements operating policies in each area in accordance with established goals and objectives. Incumbent assists in the development of long range fiscal plans and immediate financial goals for each area of responsibility. A significant aspect of this work is the institution of proper quality control procedures thereby ensuring Federal, State and JCAH licensure, certification and accreditation.

Oversees the daily operation and activities of administrative services, food services, general patient maintenance and care, institutional security and grounds and plan maintenance.
Supervises administrative functions such as legal services, volunteer services, communications and records.
Participates in the development of policies and procedures and monitors the quality of programs recommending and initiating changes as required.
Prepares operating and capital budget, monitors contracts, and insures operation within budgetary constraints.
Prepares various records and reports describing statistical, fiscal and personnel data of the facility.
Attends meetings, conferences and seminars and participates in hospital committees involved in quality assurance, infection control, etc.
May supervise personnel management functions for the facility.

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Hospital Administrator I Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
Six months experience in health care facility administration which includes administering, directing and coordinating the business and service support functions necessary for the provision of appropriate health care.
Six months experience in budget administration which includes managing, developing, analyzing and implementing budgets; developing strategic plans and establishing internal control.
Six months experience in operations management which includes planning, directing, coordinating, controlling and evaluating operations typically through subordinate supervisors.
Knowledge of interpreting licensure, certification and accreditation standards.
