Summary Statement

The primary location is 1825 Faulkland Road but includes statewide duties. This position supervises DSCYF Education Unit, all education programs supervised by DSCYF, and is responsible for promoting the success of all students by developing, articulating, implementing a vision of learning that is shared. Also responsible for advocating for and sustaining a school (program) culture conducive to student learning and staff professional development. The position will ensure effective management of the organization, operations and resources for safe, efficient and effective learning environments.

Essential Functions

The listed duties are carried out within the context of quality and the goals of safety and positive client outcomes.
• Promotes the success of every student by facilitating development, articulation, implementation and stewardship of a vision of learning that is shared and supported by the Department of Services for Children, Youth and Their Families (DSCYF) community.
• Promotes the success of all students by ensuring effective management of the organization, operation and resources for safe, efficient, and effective learning environments.
• Knows and understands educational laws.
• Ensures a collaborative relationship with Delaware school districts and the Department of Education.
• Collaborates with national organizations to enhance the educational programs in DE DSCYF.
• Utilize community resources as well as write both entitlement and discretionary grants.
• Monitors program expenditures and ensure appropriate use of department funds.
• Monitors private vendors and contracted agencies regarding compliance, certifications and outcomes.

Job Requirements

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

1. Applicant must be certified or  certifiable by the State of Delaware, Department of Education as  Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.

2. Minimum five years of teaching experience in K-12 setting and five years administrative experience as building principal or central office leadership position.

3. Experience with high risk youth.

4. Working knowledge of transition needs services for youth as they return to community schools and reach adulthood.

License,Registrations and Certifications

Applicant will submit the following at time of interview:

  • Documentation of Praxis-1 Scores
  • Copy of Professional Status Certificate or License
  • Copy of unofficial transcripts.

Conditions of Hire

Pre-employment Drug Testing:  Upon a conditional offer, you must undergo pre-employment drug testing as part of the hiring process.

Criminal background check:  A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire.  The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.

As a condition of hire you must possess a drivers license.
