Loudoun County's Department of Transportation and Capital Infrastructure is currently seeking a talented, highly-motivated individual to fill the position of Senior Transportation Planner, with a focus on Traffic Study Scoping. This position will be responsible for managing traffic study submissions and day to day activities related to developer and County initiated traffic studies; coordinating scoping issues with internal staff, VDOT, consultants and external referral agencies; evaluation of study submissions for consistency with Facilities Standards Manual (FSM) guidelines and the Countywide Transportation Plan (CTP); and working to resolve issues as needed, prior to the acceptance of the study. Position also provides support to the Transportation Planning and Policy team by reviewing legislative and ministerial land development applications and providing accurate and concise written transportation comments for use by staff, the Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors; and provides prompt, informative and courteous customer service to inquiries received by department staff and the public. The position works closely with various County departments, County Administration, and the Board of Supervisors on matters pertaining to transportation related issues and projects. The successful candidate should be a team player with excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, and possess the ability the share innovative ideas, creative problem solving, and awareness of emerging trends, technologies, and best practices related to transportation planning.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Planning or a related field, plus 2 years of experience in civil engineering, transportation planning or a related field.
Proficiency with travel demand software (Cube/Voyager, TP+, TransCad, and proficiency with operational software (HCS, Synchro) and GIS is preferred.
A valid driver's license is required. Occasional attendance at night meetings as also required. American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) and Profesional Transportation Planner (PTP) certifications are preferred.
