Job Description

The Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Human Resources Assistant.

Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist Fire and Rescue Human Resources (HR) in all aspects of the Department’s recruitment and hiring processes.  
  • Assist HR Manager in communicating HR policies, procedures, and other documents to Department employees. 
  • Serve as liaison for Department employees regarding benefits.
  • Attend a variety of inter- and intra-departmental meetings in order to maintain and distribute written meeting minutes for a variety of divisional meetings.  
  • Input information/data into and maintain the various electronic data management tools possessed by the Department.
  • Enter candidate information into background verification system.
  • Enter personnel action forms for new hires and existing employees. 
  • Complete timesheets and payroll documents in a timely fashion.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.


The selected candidate must have:

  • Thorough knowledge of standard office practices and procedures; business English, proofing, and editing skills. Strong organizational skills, ability to work independently.  Ability to maintain confidentiality.  Timely turnaround of work product and strong report processing skills needed. 
  • Must have the ability to communicate ideas clearly, concisely, and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to build strong, credible work relationships within the department as well as throughout other departments. 


Selected candidate should also have:

Basic knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices of Human Resources Management; recruitment and selection of employees; employment law – ADA, EEO, FLSA, ADA, EEOC, FCRA, FOIA, and state/federal laws. 

Job Requirements

Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a High School Diploma or equivalent and 4 years related human resources experience. Experience in Microsoft Office Suite required; experience with HRIS programs strongly preferred. Strong customer service skills are essential. Associate’s Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or a similarly related field and at least 2 years of directly related human resources experience preferred.

Special Requirements

This position is critical in nature and considered essential/emergency personnel subject-to-call during local emergencies for purposes of emergency/crisis management to include being “on call” or responding to emergency situations. In the event of an emergency, employee may be required to work and/or may be assigned to the Emergency Operations Center or elsewhere to carry out the essential functions of County Government.
