Job Description

Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Services, Area Agency on Aging, is currently seeking qualified applicants for a Recreation Programmer at the Senior Center at Cascades located in Sterling, VA. The Center serves a thriving and diverse community of seniors in Eastern Loudoun. This position is responsible for the planning, development and implementation of weekly, monthly and quarterly programs that meet the wellness, educational, recreational and social needs for all senior center participants.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Completes needs assessments and re-assessments of clients, adjusting program schedules and content to respond to participants requests and needs at the senior center
  • Evaluates programs, activities, special events and tracks for reporting purposes
  • Assists with maintaining confidential participant records, including the use of State and County required database software
  • Assists as needed with the coordination of facility rental use by notifying, supervising, and scheduling Facility Supervisors and providing back-up facility coordination of repairs and cleaning
  • Trains and supervises volunteers and coordinates volunteer activities
  • Provides back-up supervision for transportation services and substitutes as Passenger Vehicle Operator to transport participants
  • Develops and implements center programs, activities, classes and special events and programs offered by the senior center
  • Promote programs via press releases, newsletters, flyers, speaking to groups and all other relevant sources
  • Recruits organizes and manages volunteer instructors, program leaders, activity coordinators, entertainment and special guest speakers
  • Works collaboratively with manager and center Advisory Board on annual planning and budget enhancements
  • Assist with center activities and programs, including set up, clean up, serving lunch and other duties that are essential to center operations

Job Requirements

  • Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, or Recreation with coursework related to seniors and/or gerontology
  • Commercial Driver's license (CDL) Class C with passenger endorsement is required
  • CPR/AED, First Aid certification required
  • ServSafe certification for meal program required

Special Requirements

  • Experience working with and planning programs for senior adults is highly preferred
  • Experience working with database software preferred
  • Six (6) months experience dealing with the general public, including working with older adults or other special population groups, is preferred
  • CDL license preferred at time of hire, however assistance may be provided to successful candidate to obtain appropriate CDL license within 4 months of hire

Post Conditional Offer Contingencies

  • Successful candidate will undergo criminal background, credit and DMV record checks
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol screening required
  • CPR and First Aid Certification required and must be obtained within 90 days of hire
  • CDL license within 4 months of hire
  • The incumbent of this position must comply with the Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Program as outlined by Loudoun County's Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Policy for Transportation Employees
