Loudoun County, Virginia, is currently seeking applicants for three (3) Civil Engineers within the Department of Transportation and Capital Infrastructure. As a Civil Engineer, you will manage the design of transportation projects to include new roads and roadway expansions, intersection improvements, and traffic signals. You will be responsible for managing engineering design consultants through the pre-programming, pre-design, project design, site plan, and construction administration phases. Duties include, but are not limited to: development and processing of transportation design plans in accordance to VDOT design standards and the VDOT Locally Administered Projects Manual, review of layout, drainage, grading, and utility design plans, processing plans to obtain regulatory approvals, oversight of civil plan production and revisions through all phases of a project; technical consultation reviews; utility coordination, field inspections; proposal and report writing; preparation of specifications and construction documents; and review of drawings and documents to assure compliance with County and VDOT designs and production standards. Successful candidates must possess excellent written and verbal skills. Project management, estimating, and scheduling skills are essential.


Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and at least four (4) years of professional engineering work experience of a complex nature, direct design experience, and administrative experience. Experience managing projects using the VDOT Locally Administered Projects Manual and use of construction management software, such as e-Builder, is desirable. Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license.


A Professional Civil Engineer license (P.E.) in the Commonwealth of Virginia, NICET certification, and/or Designated Plans Examiner certification is preferred.


The successful candidate will undergo a criminal background check, to include credit and DMV checks.
