Main Purpose of Job
The primary purpose of this position is to provide senior-level paralegal support for the Maryland Agricultural Land Preservation Foundation (MALPF) easement program in 23 counties and support the Assistant Attorney General's Office, Chief of Land Acquisition & Disposal, and Chief of Valuation and Appraisal in MALPF duties outlined in the MOU between the Department of Agriculture and Department of General Services.
Responsibilities include file and database management; legal document preparation and review; procurement, ordering, and reviewing title work; plotting legal descriptions; approving and tracking invoices from title companies; and performing post-closing review and file archiving.
This position also serves as the Senior/Lead Paralegal, assigning, reviewing, and overseeing Junior Paralegals work.
POSITION DUTIES
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Facilitate monthly team meetings.
- Reviews title commitment packages for accuracy before sending them to the assigned Assistant Attorney General.
- Monitors
all title companies to ensure they remain annually in Good Standing with the
State and DGS.
- Reviews, approves and processes invoices for payment.
- Ensures settlement/closing actions are completed.
- Archives case files.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.
2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for- year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Strong
preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred
qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your

1. Legal administrative, clerical, or professional experience.
2. Real
estate title search and/or examination knowledge or experience.
3. Real
estate title insurance knowledge or experience.
4. Real
estate settlement/closing knowledge or experience.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

will be used by the hiring authority to select employees for interviews.
