Summary

This is a professional traffic engineering position in the Implementation Section of the Engineering and Operation Division of CDOT.

The position is responsible for management of the bridge replacement program and roadway transportation/traffic signalization design and implementation. Responsibilities include: Advanced levels of leadership planning, organizing, reviewing, scheduling and managing of bridge inspection/repair, bridge replacement, and bridge related federal policies/municipals agreements and service/construction contracts; bridge structural engineering knowledge; professional traffic engineering skills/knowledge to develop, review, and implement plans for facilitating traffic movement and related traffic engineering activities; and supervising one to four professional or technical staff. The successful candidate will demonstrate a high level of independent judgment, initiative, critical thinking, and excellent communication skills.

Assignments are received on the basis of objectives to be achieved and performance is evaluated on the basis of results

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Manage the bridge replacement program 
  2. Manage and direct CDOT activities on field construction projects. 
  3. Develop, review, coordinate and implement construction traffic control, signals, signing, and pavement marking plans. 
  4. Design, review and coordinate utility make ready work internally and with utility companies. 
  5. Inspect or ensure proper inspection of work on assigned projects.
  6. Prepare costs estimates, assists in contract preparation, and perform contract administration. 
  7. Plan, coordinate and manage all aspects of assigned projects, ensuring timely and quality completion of work. 
  8. Supervise one to four professional or technical personnel 
  9. Respond to citizen’s requests, concerns and complaints in oral and /or written communications promptly, courteously and effectively. 
  10. Apply strong computer skill including ACAD, communications skills and has the ability to work both independently and in team settings 
  11. Perform related work as required including assisting the Implementation Section Manager with preparation of budgets and Business Plans

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, including internal and external customers. Act as a public advocate while enforcing good transportation engineering standards for safety, construction and improved traffic operations. 
  • Requires strong interpersonal skills in communication, leadership, decision-making and innovation. 
  • Ability to successfully perform project management tasks including the proactive management of the critical path relating to project design, implementation and closeout. 
  • Thorough knowledge in principles and practices of civil/transportation engineering. 
  • Considerable knowledge of modern transportation engineering methods and techniques. 
  • Familiarity with the principles and problems involved in planning, managing resources and financing transportation engineering programs and projects. 
  • Familiarity with intergovernmental laws and procedures relating to transportation engineering. 
  • Familiarity with municipal government administration and the role of transportation engineering. 
  • Familiarity with GIS mapping and related software packages such as ArcView 
  • Ability to use engineering and financial software packages such as AutoCad and Excel. 
  • Knowledge in the preparation of the designs, estimates, and specifications. 
  • Ability to exhibit good customer service skills 
  • Ability to communicate strong interpersonal skills such as tact, active listening, respect and calmness. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships by being proactive, collaborative, and diplomatic with city employees, outside agencies and the general public. 
  • Ability to apply conflict resolution techniques

Preferred Qualification

  • PE certification preferred

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Level Degree - Engineering and five (5) years relevant experience.

Salary

  • $82,755- $103,442  / Year ; Commensurate with experience

Conditions of Employment
