New Haven is offering exciting programs for all children, in age groups from birth-19, including young adults from 20-24 for the Summer of 2023. Come be a part of it!

Hires for Summer 2023 may include specific City Summer Camp assignments and programs; there are other Youth & Recreation programs that are provided year-round.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

This is a responsible position for a mature individual who will assist the Program Specialist and Community Recreation Supervisor supervise and conduct classes, provide periods of instruction, keep accurate records and all other related duties. Assignments of the Program Aide may include:

  • Arts & Crafts Instructor
  • Assistant Camp Counselor
  • Canoe/Kayaking Leaders
  • Locker Room Attendant
Hours of work will vary with assignment.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist instructors with any given activity and work. Person would be directly responsible to the Program Specialist and to the Recreation Supervisor.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Candidate should be a high school graduate, or currently enrolled high school student 16 years of age or older, with the ability and interest to assist instructors, coaches and officials in a wide variety of supervised activity, and the ability to work with groups ranging from grades K – 12.

SALARY, BARGAINING UNIT & TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

This is a General Fund, "Non Tested" position.

This Seasonal position is not eligible to receive medical benefits, vacation pay, sick pay, union membership, or union contractual benefits. Any period of Seasonal employment will not be construed in any way to mean probationary employment. Persons may not be employed in two concurrent positions with the City and/or the Board of Education at the same time.

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
