Internship Overview
The Public Health Public Policy Intern will play a vital role in supporting the Health Department’s public health initiatives and policy advocacy efforts. This internship is designed for students or recent graduates interested in gaining hands-on experience in public health, policy analysis, and community engagement.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Research and Analysis: Conduct research on current public health policies, health disparities, and community health issues affecting New Haven residents.
- Policy Development Support: Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of public health policies and programs.
- Data Collection and Analysis: Gather and analyze data from surveys, studies, and community health assessments to inform policy decisions.
- Community Engagement: Participate in community outreach activities, including organizing events and workshops to educate the public about health issues and available resources.
- Report Writing: Help prepare reports, presentations, and policy briefs for internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaboration: Work closely with Health Department staff, community partners, and local organizations to support public health initiatives.
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Applicant must currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Public Health, Public Policy, Health Administration, or a related field.
- Strong research, analytical, and writing skills.
- Familiarity with public health principles and policies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

SALARY, BARGAINING UNIT & TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Hourly rate determined by last year of school completed.
This part time internship position is not eligible to receive medical benefits, vacation pay, sick pay, holiday, union membership, or union contractual benefits. Any period of part time employment will not be construed in any way to mean probationary employment. Persons may not be employed in two concurrent part time positions with the City and/or the Board of Education at the same time.
