PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
This is highly responsible supervisory work related to the control, maintenance and enforcement of regulations governing the order and security of the City’s Public Schools and its affiliates. Employee is responsible for the supervision of School Security Officers. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Director of School Security, or designee.
Work is typically 7am-3pm, M-F.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepares reports as required.
- Investigates complaints as required.
- Oversees Training for School Security Officer 1 and School Security Officer 2.
- Assists law enforcement officers as needed.
- Supervises the work assignment(s) of School Security Officer 1 and School Security Officer 2.
- Testifies in court and public hearings.
- Performs other related work as directed by the Director of School Security, or designee.
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school or possession of GED and a minimum of 5 years of experience in school security officer work in a school district or law enforcement and 1-3 years of supervisory experience.
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Knowledge of the safety and security needs of students, teachers, and other school personnel.
- Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, school administrators and the general public.
- Ability to think and act quickly in emergency situations.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. (ex.) report writing, presentations, etc.
- Ability to physically restrain disruptive students and/or adults when necessary.
- Ability to handle situations involving physical contact between two or more persons in a tactful and efficient manner.
- Ability to train and supervise employees.
- Ability to conduct research, analyze data and prepare clear and concise reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, school personnel and the public.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office Excel, Outlook, and Word
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Possess valid driver’s license at time of application and maintain said license through duration of employment in the position.
- Possess Connecticut Uniformed Security Officer / Guard license; and maintain this license through duration of employment in the position.

SALARY, BARGAINING UNIT & TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a General Fund, "Tested" position.
This position is included in a collective bargaining agreement with Local 3144, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.

General Funded hires into this class are not covered by Social Security and will not pay Social Security taxes. They instead participate in the City Pension; the employee contribution rate is 10% of pay.
Selection Plan
