Overview

Human Resources (HR) has launched its Internal Talent Mobility Pilot Program (ITM) for City of Charlotte employees. The program helps current city employees better prepare to take the next step in their careers.

Through the program, participants will receive the resources, training and guidance to help them stand out when applying for their next role. Pilot participants will build skills in areas such as personal and professional development, networking, and career readiness.

Summary

Interested employees must complete the ITM online application to participate in the program. The application period will open on January 11, 2021, and close on January 25, 2021. Human Resources will review applications and accept candidates based on a range of criteria. To qualify employees must be in their current position for a minimum of six months and in good standing, with not currently engaged in the disciplinary process.

A limited number of participants will be selected for the pilot program. Program coursework will begin in February 2021.

Candidates selected to participate in the program will receive an acceptance email with details outlining next steps. Candidates who are not selected will be updated via email.

Each participant selected for the pilot program will complete an initial assessment with an HR representative. The assessment will help determine the specific resources and training needed to aid in each candidate's development.

Following an initial introduction meeting, each participant will enroll in a series of personal and professional development courses and participate in job shadowing and networking opportunities. Networking opportunities will be virtual and in-person learning sessions will adhere to the most recent COVID-19 safety protocols.

Once participants have finished the program, they will receive a certificate of completion. Program graduates will also be able to include ITM coursework on their resumes as part of their training or education history. An ITM program certification will signal to hiring managers that the candidate is primed for professional advancement within the organization.

ITM graduates will still be required to apply for City of Charlottes jobs through the regular, competitive recruitment process.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Many of us find ourselves willing, motivated, and inspired to evolve to roles that expose us to more knowledge, greater responsibility, and the opportunity to earn more to support our families and dreams. We all likely have some of the same questions about how to achieve our goals and have the career we desire:

Where do I start?

What's required for the journey?

What resources are available to me?

Can I speak with someone who is doing this job to learn more?

How do prepare my resume, and for interviews?

What do I really want to do?

What are my strengths and what do I need to improve on?

The City has invested considerable resources to address these topics and more by creating the Internal Talent Mobility Program (ITM).  Dedicated professionals from HR, Organizational Development & Learning (ODL), and Talent Acquisition & Management (TAM) have combined their expertise to develop assessments, courses, and best practices for personal and professional development.
