Summary

The City of Charlotte Finance Department is seeking an Accountant Senior to work in the Financial Reporting Division. This position serves as a member of the Financial Reporting team which consists of a Chief Accountant, Assistant Chief Accountant, Accountants, a Budget & Finance Analyst, and an Accounting Technicians.

This is a Full-Time Temporary Position with Benefits from October 2023 until February 2025 and will perform advanced professional work managing an accounting related operation and reviewing and preparing financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) for governmental organizations.

The selected candidate will work with the Chief and Assistant Chief Accountant, department heads, city staff, and other financial professionals inside the organization. This position reports to the Assistant Chief Accountant.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

· Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of governmental accounting

· Advanced knowledge of the general methods for evaluating financial performance such as income statement preparation, variance analysis and break-even analysis

· Proficient with personal computers including spreadsheet and database applications

· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

· Strong written and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualification

· In depth knowledge of governmental accounting and enterprise entities

· Three or more years of relevant   

Minimum Qualifications

· Associate degree and five years of relevant work experience

OR

· The equivalent combination of education and experience necessary to perform the essential job functions


Conditions of Employment

The checks must be consistent with the guidelines set forth by these laws requiring organizations to obtain a candidate’s written authorization before obtaining a criminal background report, motor vehicle records check or credit report; and to properly store and dispose of information derived from such reports.

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
