Assist
with the development and implementation of innovative community outreach
strategies that promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and community
dialogue
·
Identify
community concerns and seek to apply available resources for the resolution of
those concerns
·
Identify
ways to enhance youth programs focused on building conflict resolution,
leadership, and communication skills
·
Work
closely with Charlotte-Mecklenburg School administration and other partners to
ensure the success of youth-related programs: Peer Club and Peer Mediation
o
Train
youth (various grade levels) on the foundations of conflict resolution and
awareness; lead Peer Club sessions in schools
·
Work
closely with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) to address
youth violence through programs and resources
o
Support
CMPD’s summer programs and other youth initiatives
·
Assist
with intake and routing of submission forms regarding allegations of police
misconduct
·
Develop
strong community partnerships that help expand the work of Community Relations
·
Support
the work of the Community Relations Committee (CRC) and serve as a liaison for
a CRC subcommittee
·
Assist
with the logistics of trainings and community conversations facilitated by
Community Affairs or Community Relations leadership
·
Perform
other related work as required
• Experience working with government agencies, human/community relations departments and programs related to community affairs
• Ability to obtain conflict resolution and/or mediation certification; experience using conflict resolution expertise to facilitate training and awareness
• Knowledge of individual and group behavior and demonstrated ability to resolve issues
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with community groups, partner organizations and colleagues across city departments
• Ability to effectively connect with diverse community members and display an understanding of community needs
• Ability to multi-task, meet critical deadlines and maintain a high level of productivity
• Ability to work with youth in a supportive and productive way
o Role will require work in schools, individual must be able to pass background screening for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools
• Must be able demonstrate leadership abilities and maintain composure and performance under pressure
• Ability to make decisions independently within general policies and guidelines
• Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing to both internal and external audiences
• Ability to prepare and present clear and concise reports; make recommendations for new initiatives
• Ability to actively listen and adapt to the changing needs of a group
• Must be able to work on-call and/or a flexible schedule during off-hours if needed
• Ability to handle complex, confidential, and sensitive executive-level information
• Demonstrated skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) effectively; experience using Adobe Creative Suite is a plus
• Bachelor's degree in public administration or related field. A minimum of three years’ experience working in human relations, community services, government, or related field.
• Bilingual (Spanish) ability a plus
High school graduation or equivalent and three years relevant work experience

Associate's Degree and one year relevant work experience
OR
Bachelor's level degree
The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte.
