Community

Summary

Coordinates enforcement efforts for the Unified Development Ordinance and provides guidance and support services to the Code Enforcement Service Area teams.  In addition, this team member will assist the Code Enforcement Manager in carrying out the operations of the Code Enforcement Division. This position reports to the Code Enforcement Operations Manager and works with a team of Code Coordinators to ensure consistent and effective implementation of code enforcement functions across the City.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the implementation of the zoning enforcement function across Code’s service areas, including facilitating regular meetings for zoning inspectors, working with supervisors and senior inspectors to identify training and development needs, and sharing information and best practices across teams.
  • Coordinates the enforcement of complex or challenging code cases, including but not limited, to UDO appeals.
  • Facilitates citation reviews at the request of residents.
  • Acts as a liaison to other Departments and Agencies and ensures the Code Enforcement Manager is informed of emerging issues.
  • Conducts quality assurance reviews to identify opportunities for process improvements.
  • Helps develop management information to support program, policy, and process improvements. 
  • Assists with special projects assigned by the Code Enforcement Manger.

  • Ability to plan, develop, organize, implement, and evaluate assigned areas.

Preferred Qualification

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in business administration or public administration, or a related field, or the equivalent in working experience, or a combination of both.
  • Certified Zoning Official Certification.
  • Knowledge of the Unified Development Ordinance, Charlotte Housing Code, State Building Regulations and Health and Sanitation codes.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Graduate or Equivalent and five years related work experience or associate degree with three years related work experience, along with NC State Building Certification Level 1.

Conditions of Employment

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
