Summary
This position serves as an internal organization development consultant providing management consulting and business facilitation services to departments. Services include diagnosing, contracting, designing, implementing, and evaluating group interventions; providing performance coaching to individuals at all levels; facilitating organizational change initiatives; assisting departments with City vision and mission alignment. The person in this position must excel at developing and fostering collaborative relationships at all levels of the organization.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
- Serves as internal organization development consultant; provides management consulting and business facilitation services for assigned departments. Services include diagnosing, contracting, designing, implementing and evaluating group interventions.
- Provides performance coaching to individuals at all levels, assists with development plans for behavior changes.
- Facilitates organizational change initiatives; developing and fostering collaborative relationships at all levels of the organization.
- Performs as a project manager managing training and consulting projects including planning, scheduling, budgeting, staffing, monitoring and evaluation as needed.
Other Duties:
- Represents Human Resources / Organization Development and Learning on organizational teams as identified.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Extensive knowledge of theories, models and best practices in the areas of organization development, change management, diversity, leadership development, succession planning
- Considerable knowledge of theories, models and best practices for group effectiveness including trust building, working collaboratively, problem solving, decision making and conflict resolution
- Knowledge of and experience with multiple assessment tools and methodologies (Workplace Big 5, Myers Briggs Type Indicator; DISC; 360 degree assessments, etc.) Experience/knowledge of Blanchard’s Situational Leadership
- Knowledge of the principles of adult education and the Instructional System Design Model
- Must demonstrate strong presentation and facilitation skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, consulting, negotiation and influencing skills with confidence to interface with all levels of leadership
- Ability to work in a team environment and share decision making
- Ability to work independently, taking ownership and responsibility for projects
- Ability to solve problems creatively and with initiative
- Ability to give and receive feedback openly, non-defensively and with tact
- Ability to communicate through grammatically correct written and verbal methods
Preferred Qualification
Preferred Education:
Bachelor’s degree in adult education, psychology, communications, business, public administration or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
Preferred Experience:
- 3-5 years related experience, with demonstrated success in internal consulting, organization development initiatives, change management, leadership development, diversity or team effectiveness
- Experienced and skilled in group facilitation
- Demonstrated experience influencing, collaborating, and communicating with multiple layers of leadership across a variety of functional and business areas
- Proven excellence with research and analysis, oral and written communication
Minimum Qualifications
High School Graduate or Equivalent and seven years related work experience
OR
Associate's Degree and five years related work experience
OR
Bachelor's Degree and three years related work experience
OR
Master's Degree and one year related work experience
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and/or move 10 pounds from side to side
Sensory Requirements:
- Visual acuity consistent with (A) Operators, including color distinction (ability to produce PowerPoint slides)
- Hearing ability sufficient to interact with class participants
Conditions of Employment
The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte.
