Summary

The Accounting Services Intern will work with each of the Accounting Services Sections – Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Financial Reporting.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist Accounts Payable Manager with reviewing and receiving processes of invoices prior to submission for payment.
  • Assist Accounts Receivables Manager in analyzing aging reports of unpaid invoices and unallocated revenues – processes necessary adjustments in Microsoft Excel workbooks.
  • Review and analyze Aviation’s annual operating expenses for financial reporting requirements necessary to complete the annual Airline Rates & Charges Reconciliation.
  • Learns and reviews compliance measures of all Financial Reporting Requirements from the Federal Aviation Administration and other Federal/State agencies.
  • Learn processes for end-of-year financial reconciliations, including airline rates and charges, rental car companies, valet operator, fixed base operator, and other tenants or management companies as required.  Also, assist as necessary with file preparation in Microsoft Excel. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Working knowledge of accounting, business, or financial management terminology
  • Ability to understand and analyze statistical and historical data in text and number format.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative.
  • Computer literacy required with emphasis in Microsoft Office products – Excel and Word.

Preferred Qualification

Major coursework in accounting, business administration or related field required.  Experience in financial and cost accounting, financial analysis and supervision required.

Minimum Qualifications

Current enrollment in an accredited college or university leading towards a Bachelor's degree with major course work in a related field of study specific to the departmental and/or work assignment.

Conditions of Employment

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.

Background checks must be in compliance with all federal and state statutes, such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The checks must be consistent with the guidelines set forth by these laws requiring organizations to obtain a candidate’s written authorization before obtaining a criminal background report, motor vehicle records check or credit report; and to properly store and dispose of information derived from such reports.

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
