Introduction

Storm Water Services' mission is to serve the City of Charlotte by improving surface waters and conveying rainwater safely through well-maintained storm drainage systems. Each year Storm Water Services invests $100+ million in capital improvements and staff manage hundreds of storm drainage improvement projects. Storm Water Services is one of the largest stormwater utilities in the Southeast with approximately 215,000 customer accounts and more than 200 full-time positions.

Summary

This position is based in the Storm Water Services’ Strategic Planning and Operations Division on the Investigation Team and performs investigative, planning, and customer service tasks related to storm water requests for service, inspections, and projects.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Respond to customer calls and concerns
  • Create new service requests, research drainage issues, coordinate with other departments or teams within the division 
  • Serve as liaison between Storm Water Services and the 311 Call Center
  • Assist with Request for Service Investigations
  • Update and maintain project and customer request databases (Emerald and Cityworks)
  • Create project work orders
  • Close and archive projects
  • Track and report project status from investigation through design, construction, and close out
  • Manage record retention and close out documents
  • Track and assist with departmental risk management claims
  • Track and assist with Social Media, Public Records, Council, and City Manager Requests
  • Assist with management of supplies and inventory 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills 
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other City employees and the public 
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and organize work and complete assignments with minimal supervision 
  • Ability to apply conflict resolution techniques 
  • Computer skills including, Microsoft Office Products
  • Ability to learn Emerald and Cityworks 
  • Understand and interpret GIS maps using ArcGIS 
  • Ability to research deed information with Register of Deeds website 
  • Proficient in managing Excel spreadsheets; and producing reports.

Preferred Qualification

At least one year of experience in customer service (resolving customer inquiries and concerns)

Minimum Qualifications

High School Graduation or Equivalent and three years of relevant work experience

OR 

Associate's Degree and one year of relevant work experience

OR

Bachelor's Degree and no relevant work experience

Salary

$57,165.00 - $63,516.00 Commensurate with Experience

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte.
