PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
This is a pivotal role in our organization, involving highly responsible volunteer management work. You will be assisting the Public Health Emergency Response Coordinator as a liaison with other the federal, state, and local Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) partners and the community.
Your work will be crucial in promoting, recruiting, retaining, and planning activities for the City of New Haven Health Department MRC and volunteers in preparation for routine or public health emergency activities.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs community outreach by attending or creating events to promote and recruit MRC volunteers. This includes overseeing, setting up, and breaking down events (tents, tables, marketing collateral, etc.).
- Attends monthly, quarterly, or as-scheduled MRC meetings as designated to exchange information on recent MRC activities and the MRC program.
- Maintains planning and completing paperwork for MRC activations, meetings, and training.
- Analyzes and maintains the Volunteer Information Management system and assists in preparing it and various required reports.
- Assists with trainings developing and conducting MRC volunteer meetings and training on a variety of training on various emergency preparedness topics.
- Performs other related work as required to assist the Emergency Preparedness Section, playing a crucial role in ensuring the community's readiness for emergencies.
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a two-year college or university with major course work in emergency management, public or business administration, or a related field; 3 to 5 years’ experience in emergency management, public administration, volunteer management, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities. KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Considerable knowledge of federal and state funding structures as they relate to municipal government.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with government officials, businesses, community representatives, and the public.
- Ability to express oneself effectively and persuasively, both verbally and in writing. Must have excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
- Previous experience as a volunteer or working with a volunteer organization preferred.
- Ability to use applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for creating documents, spreadsheets, and correspondence; Canva, CT Responds experience helpful.
- Competency in using email clients (e.g., Outlook, Gmail) and calendar applications for scheduling and managing correspondence.
- Project management skills including but not limited to meeting deadlines, managing to budget, problem-solving quickly and in the moment.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and sensitively in a diverse community, recognizing and respecting cultural differences, and fostering an inclusive environment.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must maintain current Connecticut driver’s license.
- May be required to work unconventional hours in the event of a health emergency.
SALARY, BARGAINING UNIT & TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a part time, Special Fund, "Non Tested" position.
This part time position is not eligible to receive medical benefits, vacation pay, holiday, union membership, or union contractual benefits. Any period of part time employment will not be construed in any way to mean probationary employment. Persons may not be employed in two concurrent part time positions with the City and/or the Board of Education at the same time.
