Employees in this classification pick up, receive, and care for human corpses, and assist in maintaining clean and sanitary conditions in the morgue rooms. These employees drive the morgue vehicle to the scene of accidents and homicides, as directed by a higher-level official, to obtain the bodies of the victims. The employee also assists in the more routine aspects of caring for corpses and ensuring that they are appropriately handled.
An employee in this classification works under the general supervision of a physician or other designated official, and performs assigned tasks as directed. The work does not normally require supervising others. Work is evaluated through observation in terms of promptness, completeness, overall quality of work, and adherence to standard procedures.
Drives a morgue vehicle to scene of violent or sudden death and receives body from the police, hospital official or other appropriate authority;
Places body with proper identification in refrigerated storage space;
May secure hospital records;
May deliver tissues to laboratories or pick up tissues for study;
Assists in moving bodies before, during and after autopsies;
Assists in cleaning and maintaining equipment, and morgue rooms in a sanitary condition;
Performs other related duties.
